Head to Deerfield Beach to experience a bustling coastal community where the whole family can play and explore the pristine beach. When you’re not swimming, building sandcastles, surfing, hunting for seashells, or sunning on the stretch of Blue Wave beach, you’ll find oceanfront restaurants to savor, places to stay near all the best things to do, and memorable annual events you’ll want to return for every year.
The hub of Deerfield Beach is the International Fishing Pier. Hit the pier to get a lay of the land. The pier stretches out over the ocean nearly 1000 feet from the shoreline. Use your vantage point to decide where to set up for a day on the beach, or cast a line to the waters below and see if it’s your lucky day to pull up some mackerel, pompano, bluefish, snapper, permit fish, croaker, or even barracuda.
Make sure to check out the LIVE underwater camera, Spinner the Sea Camera, which sits at the bottom of the fishing pier, located in 30-feet of water, on the pilings of the pier.
To get suited up for all your beach fun, Island Water Sports is your one-stop shop. The family-owned retailer has been a presence in Deerfield Beach since 1978 and is so much more than a store. They offer private or group lessons in surfing, skating, skimboarding and paddleboarding for kids and adults. Free stand-up paddleboard and surfing lessons are also offered every Saturday morning on the beach.
Near the pier, you’ll find Deerfield Island Park, a 53-acre Urban Wilderness Area that is home to wildlife and ample flora and fauna. Accessible only by boat and located on the Intracoastal Waterway, the island preserve is a natural oasis where you can picnic, explore trails through mangroves, stop by the butterfly garden, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the rare gopher tortoise, grey foxes, raccoons, armadillos, and plethora of seabirds that can be seen throughout the park.
Look out for events taking place during your time in Deerfield Beach. Some of the annual events right near the pier include the Deerfield Beach Festival of the Arts in January, Beach Sounds free concert series, Boots & Bourbon Country Music Festival in November, Dunn’s Run 5K Walk and Run, Jr. Anglers Day, Ocean Brews & Blues, Pioneer Days, and much more.
When it’s time to eat, take your pick of beachfront restaurants. Head to Oceans 234 (pictured above) for fresh seafood like mahi mahi, swordfish, or scallops in a contemporary setting with optional patio seating. Chanson Restaurant is an elegant choice for fine dining to celebrate special events or romantic occasions. You can enjoy weekend brunch done beach style at JB’s on the Beach where entrees like lobster benedict or a smoked salmon BLT are available to indulge in. And, if you want burgers, wings, and fajitas with the option of partying into the late night with live music, Kahuna's Bar & Grill is the place for you.
You’ll find a wide variety of hotels in Deerfield Beach to serve as your vacation home base. Choose from lavish lodging like the Royal Blues Hotel, an oceanfront, boutique accommodation with on-site fine dining. Or expansive resorts like the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort on the north tip of the beach, and Embassy Suites Resort & Spa further south. You can also select from smaller local gems near all the best things to do, like the Carriage House Resort or Beachside Gardens.
